Get monthly updates about dogs like Dosam and follow their journey from suffering to a forever-loving home.
Dosam was one of the eighty-three survivors of the heart-wrenching Dangjin dog meat farm in 2018. Alongside his sister Dohee and a few other Dosa dogs at the farm, Dosam faced unimaginable cruelty at the hands of the owner who described them as “crazy” and laughed when he said he would often beat them to “keep them in line”. Their lives were a living nightmare, void of comfort or care.
Identified as the most fearful, Dosam and Dohee were sent to training school to help them overcome their trauma. This marked the start of their road to recovery. Under the guidance of compassionate trainers, Dosam showed incredible progress, learning to wear a leash and venture outside after six months of patient work. This seemingly simple step was a monumental victory, symbolizing their newfound freedom and strength over their traumatic past where they refused to leave their cages as it was where they ironically felt safest.
Two years of progress led Dosam to be moved to a private boarding house, where he experienced regular outdoor walks. While a future in Canada was hoped for, Dosam’s weight exceeds airline requirements and prevents his travel.
Today, the toll of his past has caught up with him. Combined with his age, he suffers from ailments in his hips and legs of which he is on pain medication to keep him comfortable. A large tumor appeared on his leg in the Spring of 2024. He is now being monitored in hopes it does not become cancerous. At his advanced age, nearing the life expectancy of his breed, we are hesitant to pursue surgery or chemotherapy.
Dosam’s Sponsorship Needs
Continued Housing and Food. Medical Monitoring and Geriatric Care
Dosam is still able to find solace through sponsorship, which will allow us to continue providing his housing, food, and most importantly, medical care that includes preventative, diagnostic, and reactive care.
Combined with the love and attention from his caregivers, Dosam’s second chance in life continues to show him that compassion indeed exists in this world. Stand with Dosam, be his sponsor, and let his story inspire change and kindness.
