Get monthly updates about dogs like Koon 2 and follow their journey from suffering to a forever-loving home.
Background: Koon was one of 16 dogs rescued from a challenging hoarding situation, where they were confined to a small space by an elderly individual. When the caregiver became severely ill and was hospitalized, the dogs were surrendered. After his rescue, Koon spent time in a private boarding house with other dogs before transitioning to a foster home earlier this year.
Personality and Socialization: Koon is a sweet and gentle boy who starts off a little shy and cautious around new people. But once he feels comfortable, his tail starts wagging, and he’ll even roll over to show his belly. He’s quiet, patient, and smart, with a nice medium energy level.
Koon loves to quietly follow his humans around and doesn’t ask for much attention, but he’s very affectionate with those he trusts. He can be a bit nervous around big dogs but does well with dogs his size and is friendly with smaller ones. When he sees cats on the street, he’s usually calm and doesn’t react much.
Behaviors: Koon enjoys going for walks and behaves well on a leash. Indoors, he is calm and not destructive, preferring to nap and relax. While he’s not very interested in toys, he loves treats. He is pee-pad trained, comfortable with visitors, and has shown no negative reactions to children. Additionally, he is good with car rides and baths but dislikes the hair dryer. Koon has not displayed any signs of separation anxiety or aggression.
Health and Diet: Koon is a true fighter who has overcome significant challenges. After being rescued, he was treated for heartworms, and in the summer of 2024, he underwent surgery for a disc problem. Thankfully, he has made a full recovery and is now in good health.
Koon is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and receives regular internal and external parasite prevention. He currently eats dry food twice a day and has shown no known allergies. While Koon is healthy now, regular check-ups and monitoring will be important to ensure his ongoing well-being.
Ideal Home: An ideal home for Koon would be with someone who has experience with dogs. Having another small dog would be great as Koon enjoys playing with other dogs and feels more confident around them. A patient and understanding owner who can provide a comfortable living environment would be ideal. Koon is a lovely boy who simply needs someone to trust and be together with.
