Background: Minky’s journey began in a puppy mill in Buan, Korea, where she was used for breeding without proper care. Rescued in fall 2023, her path to finding love has been challenging. After a year with an adoptive family, she was sadly surrendered last September due to personal reasons. Returning to a shelter must have been confusing and heartbreaking for Minky, who had already given her heart to a family. She was sad and scared when she joined our partner boarding house. It took a couple of months for her to start showing her personality. Now, surrounded by other dogs, she patiently waits for her true forever home, her resilient spirit shining through.
Personality and Socialization: Minky is a gentle soul with a calm demeanor and medium energy level. Though timid around strangers, her sweet curiosity is evident as she often circles nearby people, as if saying, “I want to be close, but I’m not quite sure how.” It’s heartwarming to see her slowly open up and learn how to accept love and affection.
With other dogs, Minky’s playful side emerges. She enjoys the company of canine friends, especially those of similar size and gentle nature. While she might be a bit nervous around larger or more energetic dogs, her gentle spirit never falters. Minky hasn’t had experience with cats or young children yet.
Behaviors: Minky is good during vet visits and handles baths and grooming well. She’s a calm passenger during car rides, showcasing her gentle traits. Due to her past life in a confined puppy mill, she’s still learning the ropes of potty training; currently she uses indoor pee pads and also the outdoor playground. She is new to leash walks but is slowly learning and we see some progress. Although shy and sometimes hesitant when people try to pet or pick her up, once held, she stays quiet and lets the person handle her. She has never shown aggression towards people or other dogs, always remaining gentle even when unsure.
Health: Minky has undergone thorough veterinary checkups and is in good health. She’s spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. She receives monthly internal and external parasite preventatives.
One thing that we noticed about Minky is that she’s missing two toes on her right hinge leg, likely a result of her time in the puppy mill. This may have happened due to the wired cage bottom used in puppy mills, where dogs’ paws can get stuck and injured. The good news is that she’s not in pain, there’s no damage to her nerves or bones, and she acts normally without requiring further treatment or surgery. In fact, it is hard to notice them unless she has a short, clean haircut.
Ideal Home: Minky’s perfect family will have experience with shy dogs and understand that adoption is a lifelong commitment. She needs patient, loving caregivers who recognize that dogs with challenging backgrounds may need extra time and understanding to flourish.
A quiet home where someone is often present would be ideal for Minky. Having another friendly, confident, and calm dog as a companion could work wonders, providing her with a furry role model and friend.
Minky is a loving, gentle girl with a heart full of love waiting to be shared. Though she is nervous and shy at first, we know she has an abundance of love to give. With time and patience, Minky will blossom, revealing her true sweet and loving nature.
Minky 2 is available for adoption. The fee to adopt Minky 2 is $580.
