Note: Mino will arrive in Toronto on July 1, 2022.
Mino was rescued in 2019 after he was found wandering around an apartment complex, where we suspect he might have been abandoned. He was following people around every time he saw someone walk by, so they called animal control. He was picked up and sent to a high-kill shelter where he was rescued before euthanasia. Mino is currently at a foster home where he stays with other dogs.
Although he lives with other dogs, Mino would be best as the only dog in his forever home. He can be bossy with other dogs and gets jealous easily when other dogs are getting attention. He is much more of a “people dog”. Mino loves people and is very affectionate, loving to follow people around, sit on their lap, and cuddle. He loves people so much he does not like to share their attention and would prefer to have all the attentiveness to himself.
It was discovered Mino had a patella luxation when he was rescued, which might have been a reason he was abandoned. He has since undergone surgery and has made a full recovery.
However, at a recent checkup it was discovered Mino has a heart issue known as Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease (MMVD- B1). The vet has determined it is not serious enough to require medication at the moment, but it would likely be needed in the next 1-2 years. For now, he would require regular check ups and monitoring, and avoid salty foods (this especially means no human food for this boy, no matter how hard he begs or how cute he looks doing it).
His ideal adopter would be where he can be the only dog in the home, with humans who are home more often than not or can include him in their activities. His adopter must be committed to his condition and helping him monitor and control it in both the short and long term.
The adoption fee for Mino is $460CAD ($360USD).
