Soochang

Background: Soochang was rescued from euthanasia with his siblings in the harsh winter of 2021. Since then he has been living with other dogs at a local shelter. He shares his kennel with another dog. They play well together and get along well.

Personality and Socialization: Soochang started out shy but has made great progress. While still a bit cautious around strangers, he’s curious and enjoys attention from new volunteers. Once he gets to know you, he’s loyal, affectionate, and loves staying close. He tends to warm up to women faster but also bonds well with male shelter staff and familiar volunteers.

Soochang makes adorable “mumble” sounds to express himself and is smart and know how to sit and wait patiently. He gets along well with most dogs, especially those of similar size or smaller. While he can be protective of his toys, he doesn’t cause trouble and enjoys playing with others.

Behaviour: He’s enthusiastic about walks, eager to be the first out the door. He walks well but can be startled by large vehicles or sudden movements. When reassured, he regains confidence quickly. Bathing and brushing aren’t his favorite, but he cooperates after some initial hesitation.

He loves toys, snacks, and curling up on a cozy blanket. Though not fond of being hugged at first, he’ll accept cuddles once he feels secure. He prefers outdoor potty breaks and keeps his kennel clean.

Health and Diet: Soochang recently had a vet check-up and is in good health. He takes monthly preventative for internal and external parasites. He eats dry kibble twice a day and has no known health issues. Soochang is up-to-date on all his vaccinations, microchipped, and neutered.

Ideal Home: Soochang’s perfect home would be with someone experienced with rescue or shy dogs who understands that building trust takes time. He needs a patient and confident person who can guide him with kindness and understanding. A quiet home in a calm neighborhood would be best for him.

He’d enjoy having another friendly, similar-sized dog for companionship but could also thrive as the only dog if he gets plenty of love and attention. His family should be ready to offer lots of patience, gentle encouragement, and unconditional love as he continues to blossom.
