Sporting Compassion with Charity Softball Events
We started off the month of September in full swing as a passionate group of softball enthusiasts gathered at Toronto’s Coronation Park to share their love of the sport and support for animal welfare. With 4 teams consisting of 60 players of varying experience levels, each player played 2 tournament-style games while tens of others cheered them on on the sidelines as the Canadian Air Show coincidently performed in the sky above.
Organized by Charity Softball Events, the event collectively raised over $1,200 for Free Korean Dogs and Toronto Cat Rescue, with proceeds split evenly between the 2 charities. Not only will the funds benefit our rescues in need of care, the event also helped raise public awareness about the fundamental issues we aim to address and important work each organization engages in to do so.
Led by Derek Lau, an FKD alumnus, and dedicated volunteer, this has been the second event hosted by Charity Softball Events, and we hope the beginning of many bigger, regular events in the next season. Rescue is all about community. In fact, its success relies heavily on individuals coming together for a common cause. We are thankful for initiatives like Derek’s that successfully seek to introduce 2 worlds that would not normally meet to expand our community and form new bonds. It was a pleasure to have met so many new friends of different backgrounds with a genuine interest in supporting our cause. We consider the event a home run!
