Why Join?
It is estimated over 2 million dogs in South Korea alone are slaughtered for meat each year. Many are brutally tortured prior, as it is believed the adrenaline released from the stress of torture makes the meat tastier and enhances nutritional and healing properties.
Despite Korea’s recently passed law to ban the dog meat trade and consumption by 2027, many dogs still desperately need help. The situation has worsened as dog meat farm owners try to maximize their profits before the ban takes effect, focusing on breeding dogs to negotiate better compensation from the government. By shedding light on these horrible practices through education and awareness, we hope to create a shift from cruelty to compassion both locally and across borders.
Our Life Changing Work
To date, Free Korean Dogs has self-initiated the shutdown of 3 dog meat farms, collaborated with local partners in Korea to save hundreds of dogs from the meat trade and other at-risk circumstances, and facilitated adoption for over 1,600 dogs. However, rescue takes a village. Our dogs cannot do it without us, and we cannot do it without you.
100 of our rescued dogs, mostly from our 2018 and 2022 dog meat farm shutdowns, remain in Korea undergoing medical and behavioral rehabilitation. Your support helps us continue to provide them with the food, shelter, medical, and training needs required for their recovery towards their forever homes. Through our “no dog left behind” mandate, those who are too ill or traumatized for adoption remain in sanctuary in our care for the rest of their lives.
Free Korean Dogs (FKD) is a registered charity in Canada (BN: 805800166RR0001).
